The Swedish company EcoEnergy Scandinavia AB today signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development, financing, construction and operation of a 100 MW Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility in Krivoy Rog, Ukraine. The facility will process approximately 500 thousand tons of Municipal Household Waste (MSW) and generate district heat and electricity.
The Swedish company EcoEnergy Scandinavia AB signed the MoU with the City of Krivoy Rog as part of a larger roll-out plan for the development, financing, construction and operation of WTE facilities in Ukraine. The facility in Dnepropetrovsk will be the third developed by EcoEnergy Scandinavia in Ukraine. In addition to Krivoy Rog, EcoEnergy is developing WTE facilities in Donetsk and Kiev.
- Signing this MoU further consolidates our commitment to invest in renewable energy generation in Ukraine, using local fuel and providing the population with one solution to waste handling. The Krivoy Rog plant will be part of a greater waste management development by the city, reducing the use of landfills, says Lars Guldstrand, Chairman, EcoEnergy Scandinavia AB.
The WTE facility in Krivoy Rog will further consolidate EcoEnergy’s presence in Ukraine. The facility in Krivoy Rog will produce approximately 30 MW of electricity and 70 MW of district heat. The facility will be designed according to EcoEnergy’s trademark and in-depth engineering skills.
- The facility will enhance the path taken by the authorities to find new solutions for handling waste and energy diversity. In addition, the population will benefit from district heat produced by local, renewable fuel. The facility will be financed by private capital, says Henrik Norström, Chief Investment & Financing Officer, EcoEnergy Scandinavia AB.
EcoEnergy will perform an in-depth feasibility study according to international standards, prior to initiating the development, financing and construction of the project. Once completed the facility will generate electricity and district heat, enough to keep 20 000 homes in the greater Krivoy Rog warm, as well as providing hot water.
